Lakshmi Srinivasan, a firm believer in this philosophy, has made a significant mark in the world of Bharatanatyam. She is a passionate and accomplished performer, choreographer, educator, and workshop leader committed to artistic excellence. Lakshmi specializes in two distinct forms of Indian classical dance: Bharatanatyam and Bharatanrityam, the latter drawing inspiration from the Sanskrit dramaturgical text Natyashastra and the intricate temple sculptures of India.

Artistic Director
Lakshmi Srinivasan is the founder and Artistic Director of Ankura School of Dance, where she trains students across Coventry, Rugby, and the West Midlands. Her journey in Bharatanatyam began at the age of five under the mentorship of Dr. Shubharani Bolar in Bangalore, India, in the Pandanallur tradition. She further expanded her expertise by earning a Master’s Degree in Performing Arts (Dance) from Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain University, where she trained under esteemed Gurus, deepening her artistic knowledge.
Lakshmi is also trained and certified in the Karanas—108 classical movements detailed in the Sanskrit dramaturgical text, Natyashastra—under Dr. Shobha Shashikumar in Bangalore, India. Since 2020, she has been pursuing advanced training in nattuvangam, a South Indian rhythmic art form involving cymbals and vocal recitation, under the guidance of the renowned Vid. D.V. Prasanna Kumar, also based in Bangalore.
Lakshmi has been awarded Licentiate status by the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), London, a prestigious teaching qualification recognizing her exceptional skills as a dance educator. Committed to nurturing her students’ growth, she regularly prepares them for ISTD Grade examinations, where they have consistently delivered outstanding results.
